This 2005 Smart Car Fortwo CDi (diesel) is presently out of commission. It costs me less at the gas pump than my old BMW 740cc motorcycle. I love my car but I find that having moved to the north of Vancouver Island presents some serious issues with this model. At this point, I don't recommend having this car and living too far from either, a dealership for it, or a reputable garage who knows and wants to work on these cars.
Presently, diesel is not getting through my high pressure pump. The code P1918 suggests that the computer thinks it is in the wrong gear to start the car. After it starts from the lift pump, it stops because the high pressure pump is told not to come on. It could be either one of three plugs and I can't do the work myself under the un-lifted car.
I will have to pay $140 in towing just to get it to a garage that has a little bit of experience with these cars. Curse on Mercedes for making this car one that mechanics either don't want to work on, or for those that do, suggest that its maintenance costs will be something I will regret due to Mercedes' desires to both keep its working a tight secret and make parts expensive. Yes, there are plenty of YouTube videos to help inform me but I need more security as I am seeking work up north and would like to know my transportation "sense of security" is not that linked to my vehicle and my lack of an existing positive reputation with a local and relative mechanic.
I have a new different radio that I haven't installed yet. The A/C needs repair which I haven't needed to do. I have an extra rear rim with a winter tire on it. I have its maintenance receipts. I myself just had the wiper linkage repaired and also an oil change. Mileage is high but multiple oil leaks to the engine were repaired by the previous owner. I believe the battery and windshield have been changed on this car already. Tires and brakes are in good shape. Priced to go as I wish to buy myself a small dual purpose motorcycle. I would consider trade for small car, truck or dual purpose motorcycle.
